What is Sever The Trace?
Sit down and let me tell you a grand story about kings, dragons, power and love. Well not that epic, but still pretty cool. Ever since he was a little boy Isaiah dreamed of being the front man for a rock band. Never getting the chance to, he one day decided to set out on an epic quest to recruit the most powerful warriors he could find. Never satisfied with the talent he came across he gave up on that quest.
It wasn’t until he married the fair maiden of the story, the woman of his dreams, the light to his fire, the most self sacrificing perfect beautiful…. ahem I got side tracked. Where were we… Ah it wasn’t until he fell in love with his wife and he then became close friends with her cousin [REDACTED]. “Wow, this guy can shred.” He told himself. Then he proposed for the second time, not to his endearing wife but to his first official band mate. “Hey wanna start a band with me?” Isaiah asked nervously expecting rejection. “Yes.” He responded. “But we are gonna do covers of Metallica and Pantera.” That was totally rad, Isaiah loved Metallica and Pantera.
So it then began, the two of them conspiring and playing together. Trying to put their own spin on things when one day a new hand touched the beacon…. Chris. Chris miraculously joined the band one day and brought his own flavor to the table. No longer did we want to focus on 80’s thrash metal. No; Chris said “Hey, what if we did that but in Drop C.” Thus the metalcore cover band began.
Their quest didn’t end there no. Because now they had three guitarists. No drummer, no singer. Who would sing? Isaiah reluctantly decided to show off a hidden talent, one he didn’t think he wanted to share with the world. He can scream. Not just scream but he can create sounds humans shouldn’t be able to replicate. Ones that his parents would say were to annoying to do around others. Sounds that he would try to recreate in his bedroom or in the car by himself. Now they were a true trio. Just three dudes willing to throw themselves around on stage like a bunch of angsty teens playing songs about sad boi hours and what not. Something though was still missing. A name.
A name is important. It’s what defines the band. Once people hear it how will they react? What will it represent? What will it mean? They had a few ideas come into the light. Crusher Creek, Shattered Within… Then one day, by chance while Isaiah and Chris were hanging out in Isaiah’s workshop, Isaiah said three words while describing working on a circuit board. He said “be careful when your trying to remove this component so you don’t SEVER THE TRACE.” They both looked at each other and knew right then and there. “That’s it.” Chris pointed. “That’s the name. That’s the bands name right there.”
Those three words changed the course of history forever. They adapted their own meaning and became something to them. More than just a fluke in a workshop one day. A true meaning. Severing the trace to anything you need to. Your past, your addictions, your problems. Anything that wears you down mentally, physically or emotionally.
The three of them then decided it was time to grow up. Let’s stop playing other peoples music, and let’s make our own. Isaiah and Chris both love to write. They have the skills needed to create poetry. To evoke emotions. To draw out the listener and describe in written word, feelings and stories that matter and that someone can relate to. So they began with their very first track. Written out of anger from a horrible situation the unreleased (maybe someday it will be redone) Blood In My Eyes.
It was raw, it was emotional, it was personal. It sounded okay but it needed some sauce. Some seasoning. Something that they guys just didn’t possess the skills or knowledge to give what it needed. Enter Eric. The long time childhood best friend of Chris, who happened to live a short drive away from them… If you consider a nation wide coast to coast drive short that is. Oh but the magic of the internet truly is fascinating. The boys sent their first demo track to Eric, who loved it so much that he decided it would be best to join the band. With some creative persuasion (Isaiah begged and pleaded on his knees) Eric joined the band in early 2025 and the trio then became a quartet of brutality. See Eric had been producing his own instrumental tracks since he was in diapers. He had the skill to produce, to write instrumentals, to program bass and drums. He wrote an entire albums worth of instrumentals over the course of 6 months and they rest of the guys started working on their end to add to it.
The rest of their story, well I guess it’s still being written. Literally, right now. They only released one song so far in early 2026 and it looks like there is another on the horizon. It’s a slammer its called…
